A story of learning, connection, and growing together

Built by a mother and her daughter

Shine Wild was created from lived experience. From navigating autism as a mother, and learning how to understand the world alongside my daughter.

She is autistic and non-speaking.
And from the very beginning, nothing about this journey felt clear.

The beginning

When I first heard the word autism, I didn’t know where to start.

There were so many questions.
So many new terms.
And a quiet kind of isolation that’s hard to explain unless you’ve felt it.

It felt like being handed something life-changing… without a map.

Learning together

So we began to learn.

Not all at once.
Not perfectly.
But slowly, together.

I started to understand how she experiences the world, how she communicates, how she processes, how she connects.

And in that process, I had to learn something else too:

How to let go of who I thought she needed to be and begin to see her clearly for who she already is.

The turning point

And then something unexpected happened.

I watched her form friendships.

In classrooms.
On playgrounds.
In small, everyday moments.

Not because anyone forced it.
Not because everything was perfectly understood.

But because children, when given the chance, naturally make space for one another.

The belief

Friendship changes everything.

They showed me that inclusion isn’t something we have to force, it’s something we can support.

That when children understand each other, they include each other.

And that even in the beginning,
there is space for connection, belonging and growth.

What Shine Wild is

Shine Wild is a starting place.

A place to understand autism in a way that feels clear, human and approachable. A place to feel less alone in the beginning. And a place to begin building something more. Connection, inclusion and belonging.

It exists to support caregivers, children and the communities around them, with tools and resources that make understanding easier and inclusion possible.

Shine Wild isn’t just something I built.

It’s something we’re building together.

We Shine Wild

She may not use spoken words,
but she is at the heart of everything Shine Wild is becoming.

And as she shines, she reminds us all
that we can shine exactly as we are, too.

When I first heard the word autism, I felt an overwhelming sense of isolation — like I had been handed a diagnosis without directions. I created Shine Wild so no parent or caregiver would ever have to feel alone on this journey, from day one.
